Extent and Severity of Wind Erosion in the Ukraine

Marat J. Dolgilevich

Abstract

Wind erosion affects an area of 220,000 square kilometers of the Ukraine and destroys soils of all natural zones. Except for blown sand the erodibility of soddy podzolic sand soil and chernozemic soils is greatest and reaches 22 and 8 t/ha per hour. Soil parameters influence the erodobility of soil by wind are researched, classified and wind erosion diagnosis is carried out. Prediction of soil loss and transfer of contaminants due to wind erosion also are worked out. The model of forest shelterbelt systems to prevent the wind erosion is suggested.
