Location Information

Choosing a location within WEPS defines the physical location of the field to be simulated. This location information is used to select the weather stations (CLIGEN and WINDGEN) to be used for the simulation. Location information is entered through the rightmost panel labeled 'Location Information' on the main interface screen.

State

The State in which the field is being modeled. Click the down arrow   to the right of the State and select the State from the list. The CLIGEN and WINDGEN stations nearest to the center of the selected County or Map Unit Area will then determined by the interface and listed.

County

The County or Map Unit Area in which the field is being modeled. Click the down arrow   to the right of the County and select the County or Map Unit Area from the list. The CLIGEN and WINDGEN stations nearest to the center of the selected County or Map Unit Area will then determined by the interface and listed.

Longitude

The longitude for the location modeled in degrees and fraction of degrees. The CLIGEN and WINDGEN stations nearest to the center of the location County will then be determined by the interface and listed. To change the hemisphere, click the button to toggle the hemisphere: East (+) or West (-).

To change the hemisphere, click the button (e.g., ) to toggle the hemisphere: West (-) or East (+).

Latitude

The latitude for the location modeled in degrees and fraction of degrees. The CLIGEN and WINDGEN stations nearest to the center of the location County will then be determined by the interface and listed. To change the hemisphere, click the button to toggle the hemisphere: North (+) or South (-).

To change the hemisphere, click the button (e.g., ) to toggle the hemisphere: North (+) or South (-).

Elevation

The average elevation for the location to be modeled in the units of measure displayed onscreen (feet or meters).

CLIGEN Station

CLIGEN is used to generate the many weather parameters for WEPS. The location of the nearest CLIGEN station to the center of the County listed is determined. If a station is displayed, the user can click on the down arrow   next to the station to bring up a list of nearby stations from which to choose an alternative. Right clicking on the listed CLIGEN station name in will bring up information about the weather station. This information may be useful in determining which station best fits the location and conditions desired.

WINDGEN Station

WINDGEN is used to generate the wind parameters for WEPS. The location of the nearest WINDGEN station to the center of the County listed is determined. If a station is displayed, the user can click on the down arrow   next to the station to display a list of nearby stations from which to choose an alternative. Right clicking on the listed WINDGEN station name in will bring up information about the weather station. This information may be useful in determining which station best fits the location and conditions desired.

Use Map

Clicking on the 'Use Map' button brings up 'Map Viewer' which is a map of the United States displaying the location of CLIGEN stations, WINDGEN stations, and major cities. Double clicking a location on the map will select the nearest CLIGEN and WINDGEN station and close the map viewer. The map viewer is a convenient way to view all of the climate stations within a state or region. An option must be enabled in the configuration settings for the "Use Map" button to appear on the main screen.
