Winter kill, leaf removal O 02 op_notes2 This operation is used to only on winter annuals subjected to winter conditions that kill leaves and some stem biomass. 90% of the green leaf material and 20% of the stem material will be removed using this operation. The winter killed mass is not added to the total residue because it usually is very small and is very subject to blowing away. Therefore the total residue at harvest time will be what is remaining after loosing the material over winter. Users should only use this when winter kill of the leaves is common. It should be applied between the time the soil freezes and the coldest part of winter. Judgement should be use in applying this operation. Exposed soil may erode until the plant begin to regrow in the spring. It should be applied uniformly to all runs in the area.
