Process: Random Roughness (P 02)
This process will simulate an operation's effect on the random roughness of the surface. Its parameters are:
- Random Roughness Flag
- Specifies how an operation affects random roughness. A value of 0 allows the operation to always set the random roughness to the specified value. A value of 1 will allow WEPS to auto-adjust the random roughness value based upon other parameters.
- Nominal Random Roughness
- If the Random Roughness Flag is set to 0, then this value is the Allmaras Random Roughness that the soil surface will have after using the tillage tool. If the Random Roughness Flag is set ot 1, then this is to be the typical Allmaras Randomn Roughness expected on a silt loam soil with lots of buried residue present. Internally, WEPS will use the shared group parameter value for the tillage intesity, as well as the soil type and residue quantity to determine the surface random roughness created by the tillage tool. In general, a high tillage intensity value will mean that the Nominal Random Roughness value will not be affected much by the pre-tillage surface roughness. A low tillage intesity value would affect the final random roughness. In general, a sandier soil will result in a lower random roughness value, and a soil with more clay will create a surface with a higher random roughness value. Because most field operations are performed with less residue than specified for the Nominal Random Roughness value, the resulting surface roughness will be less than the specified value.
